Meet BETC
Rebecca Remaly (founding ensemble member) is an actor/director from Pennsylvania. Rebecca directed Stephen MacDonald's Not About Heroes (Chasm View Productions), which garnered critical acclaim both in Denver and Boulder. She has also acted with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival (As You Like It, 2006), and in the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company's (as Oddball Players) first production in Fall 2005. Back East, Rebecca served as the Education Director at George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, NJ, and directed several touring shows there that were seen by over 80,000 children state-wide. Other directing credits include Into the Woods (Fulton Opera House, Lancaster, PA) and Romeo & Juliet (Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble). Rebecca played Ismene in BETC's production of Antigone, and directed BETC's Spring 2007 production, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and Savage in Limbo, both by John Patrick Shanley. Rebecca portrayed the role of Laura in BETC's 2007 production of The Glass Menagerie. She directed BETC's recent production of Copenhagen, and was seen on stage in the Colorado Shakespeare Festival's holiday production, A Child's Christmas in Wales.
Stephen Weitz (founding ensemble member) has an MFA in Acting from the Alabama Shakespeare Festival where he appeared in roles such as Iachimo in Cymbeline and Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice. He appeared last year in the Denver Center production of King Lear and has also been seen at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival performing Bottom in Midsummer, Leontes in A Winter’s Tale, Gratiano in The Merchant of Venice and Charles the Wrestler in As You Like It. Stephen is also a Stage Combat Choreographer, having done fight work for local productions such as CU’s Life’s a Dream, Chasm View’s Fool for Love, and Intimate Apparel and Over the Tavern at the Arvada Center. In March of 2006, Stephen directed the University of Colorado production of Shakespeare’s Richard III. Stephen directed the first production of the 2006-07 BETC season, Jean Anouilh’s adaptation of the Greek Tragedy Antigone, and performed the role of Danny in BETC’s spring '07 production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. Stephen appeared in the recent BETC production of Copenhagen and will be performing in the upcoming BETC production, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).
